If you are the owner of a residential property with three housing units or less and intend to put it up for sale soon, know that a new measure has come into effect to prohibit the purchase of this type of property by non-Canadians for a specified period.<\/p>\n

In keeping with its goal of making housing more affordable for people living in Canada, the federal government announced in its 2022 budget that a new measure would be implemented in early 2023 and would be applied for a period of two years. An Act to prohibit the purchase of residential property by non-Canadians<\/em>[1]<\/a><\/sup> and its Regulations<\/em>[2]<\/a><\/sup> thus came into force on January 1, 2023 and will be repealed on January 1, 2025.<\/p>\n
